ecw recap, 6/12/07

Posted by archangel in Uncategorized

this week’s ecw began with the long clip of mcmahon’s kayfabe death after raw last night. that’s right, I said KAYFABE death, it’s not real. I’m sure the mcmahon family and friends would not appreciate the showing of vince dying three times a day after it happened, especially when it’s a firey explosion out of a limousine causing a horrible painful death, is this was real. there was then a traditional ten rings of the bell as fans continually booed.

following this was our first match of the night, an extreme rules match with two originals, tommy dreamer and balls mahoney. though it was nice to see a small glimpse of the original ecw on the show, plus the fact that dreamer used a kitchen sink at one point, something I’ve always wanted to see out of a hardcore match, this match was still a little bland. an alright match.

main highlights:

-balls laid some nasty shots in with the trash can lid

-dreamer did his infamous tree of woe dropkick to balls using a trash can

-balls tried a leg drop to dreamer through a table, but dreamer was able to get out of the way in time

-dreamer gave balls a ddt onto a chair and got the three count

next up was the debut of the boogeyman in ecw, his first match being against  matt striker. this match wasn’t much special. honestly, I like the boogeyman for his entertainment value, but that’s all and ecw is supposed to be about the wrestling.

main highlights:

-Boogeyman had an interesting wristlock striking combo in the early stages of the match

-Striker gave boogeyman some good dropkicks

-boogeyman gave striker his chokebomb finisher for a three count

-after the match was over, boogeyman put worms in his mouth, then let them fall out into striker’s open mouth, as all I can think about is what if one of them slipped and went partially down his throat

after that, they showed a clip of the firemen who worked to put out the flames of vince’s exploded limo. this clip was really long and, considering that and how long the clip of the limo exploding was, it seems this was a really long time filler for the show.

finally we are brought to the main event of the evening, the newly drafted chris benoit would team up with cm punk to battle against elijah burke and marcus cor von. this match had everything it really needed to be a good one, but it seems that cor von kinda fucked up the ending, which really really sucks. regardless, I still almost reluctantly, give this my award for match of the night.

main highlights:

-punk had an interesting combo with an armlock into a fireman’s carry

-punk attempted a bulldog out of the corner to cor von, cor von countered by throwing punk into the ropes, punk responded with his flying heel kick

-cor von gave punk a catapult into the top turnbuckle

-cor von had punk in the corner and took too long to get done with him, as the ref counted to five, then called for the bell on dq, giving benoit and punk the win
-after the match, punk gave cor von a heel kick to the outside, and benoit gave burke his “hat trick” (triple german suplex) and sharpshooter

the show concluded with one last clip of mcmahon’s staged death one last time. they’re really pushing for people to believe this.

final thought:

obviously this week’s show got overshadowed by a vince plot in his “death,” which may or may not end up having anything to do with ecw at all. there was no other storylines tonight and there were only three matches, one of which shouldn’t happened and the other two didn’t live up to their possible full potential. hopefully benoit’s presence will end up livening the show a bit, and he can hopefully help advance punk in his skills. Im’ loking forward to punk vs. benoit for the now vacant ecw title. hopefully they realize that boogeyman comming was a mistake. hopefully they realize that they can do so much more with ecw than what they’re doing now.

ecw recap, 5/15/07

Posted by archangel in Uncategorized

this week’s program began with yet another raw recap concerning Lashley. in case you didn’t see it, he was in a match with Jonathan Coachman (somehow, I stopped watching raw after they had k-fed beat cena) and ended up spearing Umaga, going after Shane to the parking lot, then getting attacked by Vince. this was followed by a promo from Vince saying that the main event of the evening was to be, how shocking, a 3 on 1 handicap match between Bobby Lashley and the remaining members of the New Breed.
after that was our first match of the evening, Rob Van Dam against Snitsky. to be honest, this has to be the best match I’ve seen Snitsky in and RVD was classic and awesome as always. seeming as both wrestlers shined, a rarity for Snitsky, and I heard this may be RVD’s last match under a WWE owned company, despite it’s shitty ending, I give this match the match of the night.

main highlights:

-Snitsky delivered a devastating scoop slam, landing RVD flat on his back

-Snitsky put RVD in what I can only describe as a standing butterfly lock

-RVD did that kick he does to Snitsky where he holds the back of his opponents head, then kicks them in the face, and followed it with a springboard kick

-Snitsky missed a big boot, ending up with him crotched on the top rope, followed by RVD giving him a running wheel kick to the outside

-Snitsky gave RVD a chairshot to the head, and thusly RVD won by DQ

following this, right after a short promo for CM Punk, was a match between Punk and Stevie Richards. this match was great and really allowed both wrestlers to shine, even Richards who has done nothing but job since appearing in ecwwe.  this would’ve gotten best match, but we all know Punk is awesome and anybody who saw th original ecw knows that Richards is awesome, not to mention RVD’s last match kinda steals it by default and this match was kinda predictable, as beginning the rest of the night being pretty predictable.

main highlights:

-Punk showed his wrestling prowess with an impressive snap exploder suplex

-Richards gave Punk a bow and arrow submission hold, targeting Punk’s injured ribs

-Richards double stomped Punk’s chest in reversal of a sunset flip attempt

-Punk gave Richards a neckbreaker off the second rope

-Punk gave Richards the Go To Sleep, and got the pinfall

after this was a backstage promo by the remaining members of the New Breed. Elijah Burke seemed to be still upset at Matt Stryker and wouldn’t even let him speak. Burke claimed he was going to destroy Punk at Judgement Day, and Marcus Cor Von swore that he would destroy Bobby Lashley.

next up was another jobber match featuring Kevin Thorn against Nunzio, this being the first time that they’ve referred to him as Nunzio instead of Little Guido since the restart of ECW. it has been rumored that Sabu was supposed to job out to Thorn for this match and, to make a long story short,  refused to, this being the reason why Sabu wsa fired recently. anyways, this match was okay, though probably the match with the most offensive moves done on Nunzio’s part in one match.

main highligts:

-Thorn gave Nunzio a wicked powerbomb that thundered throughout the arena

-Thorn also laid a devastating flapjack on Nunzio

-Nunzio gave Thorn a kicking combo, getting Thorn on his knees, and followed up with his pattented Sicilian Slice dropkick from the second rope

-Thorn gave Nunzio his finisher, the dark kiss, and got the win by pinfall

after that was yet another boring installment of Extreme Expose. people were outraged at KellyKelly’s strip during the beginning of ecwwe, and now it’s not such a big deal because two other people are involved? the whole thing is just retarded.

following this was another recap of basically the same moment on Raw, followed by a promo from Lashley. Lashley claimed he would destroy the New Breed, envisioning them as Vince, Shane, and Umaga. as much as I know that Lashley’s not the greatest promo cutter, I must admitt that he executed this one kinda smoothly, better than his other ones.

finally we come to our main event of the evening, Lashley against the New Breed. this was was alright, but overall predictable. typical shit wwe pulls right before a ppv.

main highlights:

-Lashley brought back his one armed stalling suplex that I had actually missed

-Lashley also leapfroged over a running Cor Von and followed up with a shoulderblock

-Cor Von gave Lashley a pounce to the outside of the ring

-Burke gave Cor Von what I can only describe as a sitting crucifix hold

-Lashley speared Stryker and pinned him for the three count

final thought:

this week’s installment of ecwwe was mildly entertaining, but the main thing that dissapointed me was, apart from the opening match, it’s predictability. half of the matches were jobbers and we all knew who was going to win the last one, so where’s the suprize? the first match kept the audience enthralled not only because RVD is the shit but also because it was hard to figure out whom the wwe writers would choose to win. it’s sad to say, but they seemed to keep Snitsky and RVD on the same level when it came to push and advertisement at this point, and with wwe mad at RVD for not continuing his contract, it was hard to figure out whom would get the win. the CM Punk match was great, and I’ll admitt that he does get match of the night from me quite often, but still highly predictable in that we all knew what was going to end up happening, Punk hitting the GTS and getting the pinfall. I didn’t really care for the second half of the show, but whatever. wwe will have to work on it’s predictability if it wants to produce a better ecwwe show.
