They Could Be Extreme: #2 Goldust

Posted by admin in They Could Be Extreme

Virgil Runnels III, known as Dustin Runnles to many in the wrestling world and Goldust to WWE fans, could certainly be a great addition to the ECW roster.

Before joining the WWE (then WWE) he competed in World Championship Wrestling, primarily in a tag team, before  winning the United States Title.

The character Goldust began in 1995 as a sexually ambiguous movie star, Goldust won the Intercontinental Championship and regulaly appeard in the later part of Pay Per View events. In 1998 Goldust began dressing up as different people, (such as Shaftdust, Manson Dust and Baby New Year) with Luna Vachon by his side. In 1999 Goldust feuded with Jeff Jarrett and former ECW favourite The Blue Meanie. Goldust was also planned to be behind the now infamous “GDTV” angle, but was released.

After a two year abscense Goldust returned to the WWE in 2002. He enjoyed success during this time period, winning the Hardcore Title 9 times and the tag team championship with Booker T. Goldut’s character evolved into a comedy character, much to the delight of the WWE fans.
After a brief stint wrestling in Japan and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Goldust returned to WWE Raw in 2005 and mainly competed in tag team action with Snitsky. He was released from his WWE contract after missing a scheduled appearance to deal with a personal court case between Runnels and his ex-wife (Terri/Marlena) without informing WWE officials first.

During his time in WWE, Dustin showed many different aspects to the Goldust character and competed in many different match types and styles, perhaps one day Goldust will bring shatterd dreams to the likes of The Sandman and Sabu?

ECW On SCI Fi: 3rd October Preview

Posted by admin in ECW on Sci Fi

This week on ECW on Sci Fi, The Sandman will team with fellow ECW Original Sabu to face the Extreme Championship wrestling Heavyweight champion The Big Show and Matt Striker in tag team action.

No other matches have been confirmed, however WWE.com’s official preview hints at the development of the Rob Van Dam and Bob Holly feud following last weeks superb match.

The feud between Francine and Balls Mahoney against Ariel and Kevin Thorn also looks like it will be developed, as well as Internet favourite CM Punk against Mike Knox.

ECW On Sci Fi: 3rd October Results

Posted by admin in ECW on Sci Fi

Kevin Thorn defeated ECW original Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer looked like gaining a victory following a Dreamer DDT, however Ariel slipped Thorn’s foot on the rope to break Dreamer’s pinfall attempt. Shortly afterwards Thorn used his walking stick to bash Dreamer’s skull and earn another victory.

Test battled RVD in an Extreme Rules Match. The match had plenty of high spots, including RVD’s Rolling Thunder on the steel steps and a suplex which resulted in both men going through a table. RVD looked like he was going to finish Test, until ECW champion The Big Show threw Rob Van Dam off the top rope and through the table. Test capitalised by hitting his signature fireman’s carry into a swinging neckbreaker for the pinfall. After the match Test, The Big Show and Paul Heyman stood together.  Perhaps a new ECW faction is being made?

CM Punk maintained his undefeated streak with a win over Danny Doring. CM Punk then stated that Kelly Kelly had a problem staying away from him, making Mike Knox head to the ring to confront the straight edger. How ever, Knox had a change of heart and backed away - perhaps a match will take place next week?

In the main event, The ECW World Champion The Big Show & Matt Striker defeated ECW originals The Sandman & Sabu. The match saw The Sandman gain some retribution on the former New York teacher Striker and some typically Sabu moves! Once the ECW champion joined the match, Matt Striker and The Big Show double-teamed Sandman and the former school teacher was able to get the pin.

Where is Justin Credible?

Posted by admin in Justin Credible

Over the past few days, the Internet Wrestling Community has been speculating the future of Justin Credible.  Earlier this week his profile was removed from the ECW roster at WWE.com, leading to reports that he has been released.

These reports have not been confirmed by WWE.com - who have recently got into the habit of announcing releases from the company. At the moment it would appear that Justin Credible is being paid to stay at home - not bad work if you can get it?!

Justin Credible has not enjoyed much success since ECW returned, however reliable sources indicated that Vince Mcmahon was happy with Justin Credible’s in ring ability and was inline for a push, with a possible re-incarnation of “The Impact Players” on the cards.

They Could Be Extreme #3: Val Venis:

Posted by admin in They Could Be Extreme

Val Venis is Sean Morley’s wrestling persona of well-endowed porn star. Before wrestling proffesional in the uSA, he compted in Canada, Japan and Mexico.

Val Venis debued in the WWF in May 1998. When he first enterd the federation he fueded with Japanese stable Kaientai (which inclued ECW alumni TAKA Michinoku).  He later won the Intercontinental and European Championships.
In 2000, Val joined the Right to Censor faction (headed by ECW original Stevie (then Steven) Richards. The group disbanded right before the Invasion storyline, Venis shortly disappeared from the WWF. He returned to WWE TV in 2002 and formed a tag team with Chuck Palumbo, before he sidelined due to injury.

After a stint as “Chief of Staff” under the name of Sean Morley, he began competing again as Val Venis, but has since become used as a jobber to the bigger stars in the federation. He has achieved some success in tag team competition, with Viscera, Lance Storm and more recentley Snitsky.

The ECW fans would welcome Val Venis to the roster, his porn star persona would certainly fit the brand and his in ring ability would make Val a useful addition.

They Could Be Extreme #4: Vampiro

Posted by admin in They Could Be Extreme

Canadian born Ian Richard Hodgkinson rose to fame in Mexico’s CMLL promotion, where he overtook former ECW star Konnan as the companies #1 headliner.

In the late 90s, Vampiro was signed by WCW. He formed a stable with the Insane Clown Posse and Raven.  He would later form an alliance with Punk Rock Legends The Misfits.

In WCW Vampiro competed in several gimmick matches.  Vampiro had encounters with Sting, including a First Blood Match and Human Torch Match.  He would later face The Kiss Demon, in a Graveyard match.

After WCW went out of business, Vampiro appeard in CMLL and  All Japan Pro Wrestling.  In 2003 Vampiro competed in TNA for a short period of time, facing Raven in a Hangman’s Horror Match.

Vampiro has an intersting wrestling style, combining martial arts and a Mexican influenced arsenal of wrestling moves.  His attributes would bring something different to the ECW product and he has gained great experience in different match types over the years. However the prospect of Vamipro appearing in ECW are slim. Vamipro earned a reputation of being a moaner in WCW and has stated that he has no plans work for WWE.

Introducing: Gangrel

Posted by admin in Gangrel

David Heath first appeared in ECW in 1995 for a short period, feuding with Tommy Dreamer.
Heath debuted in WWE in 1998 as Gangrel and quickly formed a gothic stable called The Brood with Edge and Christian.  Gangrel’s brood joined the Ministry of Darkness and later formed a new version of the group with the Hardy Boys. From 1999 Gangrel mainly competed as a singles wrestler until he was released from the WWE in 2001.

In 2002 Heath appeared in TNA as “The Vampire warrior”, making occasional appearances until 2003 while still making appearances in smaller independent companies.

Gangrel returned to the WWE in 2004 having a short feud with the Undertaker and in mid-2005 when Heath appeared in Ohio Valley Wrestling, before being released for reported excessive weight gain.

David Heath resigned to the WWE in 2006 and was expected to debut in the newly launched ECW, helping to fill a quota of “Sci Fi” characters. He is yet to appear, however on October 3, 2006 Raw commentator Jim Ross updated his blog on his personal website and mentioned ‘Gangrel may be appearing on tv soon’.

It is more than likely that ECW fans will see Gangrel in action on Tuesday Nights, with rumours of him either joining or feuding with Kevin Thorn appearing on numerous Wrestling newsites.

They Could Be Extreme #5: Jamie Noble

Posted by admin in They Could Be Extreme

Jamie Noble began wrestling in 1995 after being trained by ECW alumni Dean Malenko.

Noble appeard in WCW as part of the “Jung Dragons” faction under the name of  Jamie-San alongside Jimmy Yang and Kaz Hayashi.  Noble eventually unmasked and competed as Jamie Knoble to form a tag team with Evan Karagias.

Jamie Noble joined the WWE as a heel in June 2002 where he won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and feuded with former ECW favourite Tajiri, The Hurricane and Billy Kidman. He was released in September 2004 when his steroid usage came to light following a staph infection.

After leaving the WWE he competed in numerous organisations including New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor (where he became ROH World Champion) as James Gibson.

Noble returned to the WWE in December 2005 and soon formed a tag team with former ECW competitor Kid Kash until Kid Kash was released from the company in September 2006.

With Noble’s status in Smackdown somewhat unclear, it would be a good opportunity for him to showcase his unquestioned talents if ECW was to expand. ROH fans would certainley like to see Noble and CM Punk go at it again!
