Introducing: Henry Godwinn
September the 15th saw an announcment that Mark Canterbury, or Henry Godwinn as he is more widely known, had resigned with the WWE.
In the mid-1990s, Mark Canterbury joined the WWF as an Arkansan pig farmer known as Henry Orpheus Godwinn. Godwinn began as a “heel” character helping the the Million Dollar Corporation, but later feuded with Triple H (then Hunter Hearst Helmsley) as the “face”.
In 1996 he formed a tagteam with Phineas I. Godwinn (who later became known as Mideon) and were collectively known as The Godwinns. Over the following two years, The Godwinns held the Tag Team Championship on two occasions and were managed by Cletus, Hillbilly Jim and former ECW valet Tammy Syntch (Sunny).
In 1998 the tag team changed their gimmick and became “Southern Justice”. The tag team was short lived due to a botched move by the Legion Of Doom. The move resulted in Canterbury suffering a cracked C7 vertebra. Shortly after returning to action Canterbury herniated his C7 vertebra and pinched a spinal nerve, necessitating spinal fusion surgery. He evenutally left the WWF and retired. In September 2006, Canterbury wrestled several tryout matches with the WWE.
It is yet to be announced with brand he will appear on, however a colourful or evil hogfarmer gimmick (complete with slop bucket), would make an interesting addition to the extreme championship wrestling roster.
